I couldnt agree more – the Office is groundbreaking, utterly fantastic, Extras is good comedy, Gervais stand up however is on a par with Chubby Brown.

I agree about the partridge – brent similarities and to point even more the coogan’s influence to young comedians, why not consider the similarities between Ferrino and Borat ?

I wouldn’t go far as saying that – but he’s not exactly comedy genius either. Like ‘pierstheoneandonly’ says… “one trick pony”

Gervais’ “stand up” is emabarrasing contrived and weak though.

Gervais did mention he took a lot of his stuff from others, including musicians etc. Although they maybe both similar I like them for different reasons.

I’m really glad you made that comment because I always see similarities in Gervais and Coogan! Thought I was the only one. Gervais has actuall used material of Coogans but just in different situations….both excellent though!

‘The Office’ was great, but looking at the reruns of Alan Partridge on freeview, it’s clear just how much Gervais owes to Coogan. And I’d say Coogan has greater comedy character acting ability whereas Gervais is really a one trick pony – which he’d probably admit to himself.
